  1. MGIF v5.01 is actually a very minor update to v5.00, released just
  2. before Christmas. The only change is the addition of some DSP code.
  3. For those with a Falcon030 and an interest in image processing
  4. (specifically convolution and median filters), this version should
  5. be very welcome, though.

  7. It's quite likely that there'll be another release sometime during
  8. April or May '96, but for that I need _your_ comments.
  9. I'm not only interested in bug reports and such, but also in what you
  10. think is missing in the documentation or that is hard to find or
  11. understand or whatever.

  14. All use of the program is at your own risk. No serious bugs are known to
  15. date, but there can very well be a few.

  20. Apart from this file, the following files contain valuable information on
  21. running MGIFv5:

  23. MGIF.HYP     -   ST-Guide format manual for MGIF.
  24. MGIF.OPT     -   Short descriptions of available command line switches.

  26. There are also a few other files in the archive that you should take
  27. the time to read:

  29. FREEWARE.BUT -   _Please_, register MGIF.
  30. STARTUP.TXT  -   A quick introduction to MGIF
  31.  
  32. MGIF is a very complex program, so you'd be well advised to look through
  33. the EXAMPLES directory for some ideas on what you can do.
  34. The ST-Guide manual is of course the most important document, though.

  37. Startup info
  38. ============
  39. When MGIFv5 is started it looks for a number of files.
  40. If it is started as a GEM program (.PRG or .GTP), one of those is
  41. MGIFv5.RSC. If MGIF can't find that file it aborts.

  43. The MGIF_FL.EXE file contains code that enables MGIF to store self-loadable
  44. .FL files. If it's not available, normal .FL files will be created.
  45.  
  46. The environment variable MGIF_OPT can contain the same kind of parameters
  47. that are normally given on the command line. If no other name is given, MGIF
  48. also tries to load MGIF.OPT in the current directory.
  49. It is also possible to store options permanently inside the MGIF executable.

  52. A file containing matrices for the ordered dither display, MGIF.DTT, is
  53. loaded if available. MGIF is also compatible with the .DIT files used by
  54. GEMView and Speed of Light. A switch can be used to load another dither
  55. file if needed.

  57. The names of the flicker code, options and dither files can be changed using
  58. switches.
  59.  
  60. All keyboard shortcuts can be redefined and more added in the file MGIF.KEY.
